American Spirit Sales Are Up!

2013 was a great year for American distillers, with drinkers around the globe thirsty for US spirits. It was an especially good year for bourbon and Tennessee whiskey makers. According to a new report from the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, exports of the two spirits reached above $1 billion for the first time ever in 2013—a 5-percent spike in sales. And in total, American spirits exports hit $1.5 billion last year, the fourth year in a row of record sales.
But it's not just overseas; sales of bourbon and Tennessee whiskey rose 6.8 percent in the US last year for a total of 18 million nine-liter cases. Irish whiskey and Scotch sales were also up.
