DrinkWire is Liquor.com’s showcase for the best articles, recipes and reviews from the web’s top writers and bloggers. In this post, Saloonbox offers a rum-forward cocktail.

Inspired by the momentous event, Bayou Rum – Louisiana’s hand-crafted, premium rum made from local sugar cane – is toasting the occasion with the Dark Side of the Sun. A blend of bourbon-barrel aged rum and our unique Satsuma Rum Liqueur, Dark Side of the Sun brings the award-winning qualities of Bayou Rum to light (pun intended) and is ideal for sipping while the sun slips behind the moon.

And though Louisiana may only be getting a partial view of the eclipse, you can still enjoy the Dark Side of the Sun in its entirety. Its classic flavors and dark amber hue make it the perfect cocktail to compliment any solar viewing party.

  • Satsuma Rum Liqueur rinse
  • 2.0 oz. Bayou Select
  • 0.5 oz. simple syrup
  • Mole Bitters

Rinse a rocks glass with Satsuma and let it sit. Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice and stir until cold – roughly 60 stirs. Strain into Satsuma rinsed glass over ice.

Optional: garnish with an orange peel.
