N ational Watermelon Day is August 3rd, and I couldn’t think of a better excuse to break out this cool idea. It’s a watermelon punch bowl, and your guests will think you’re awesome when you serve them (spiked) punch out of it. I tend to go a bit overboard when I host a party, sticking to the theme. This year we’ll be serving spiked watermelon pieces, serving some boozy adult popsicles made with fresh watermelon, and yes I’ll be making a nice punch and serving it out of this Watermelon Bowl idea we saw a few years back. It’s a great conversation starter for parties, tailgates, or BBQ’s, so even if you aren’t a huge “Do It Yourself” type, you can make any of these pretty easy with our step by step guides. If you were able to handle making a Pumpkin Keg like we showed you last Halloween, you can handle this one. Me personally, I’ll be serving a few watermelon cocktails and maybe a couple end of Summer punch drinks in mine, but whether you choose to go the alcoholic or non alcoholic route, this is worth a trying at home.

Watermelon Punch Bowl

  • 1 Large Seedless Watermelon
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Scoop or Large spoon
  • Liquid of Choice

Start by picking out the perfect large seedless watermelon punch bowl from your grocery store. Next cut off the top 1/3rd of the watermelon with preferably a large knife that can cut all the way across, that way you can have an even flat surface across the top of your bowl. Then proceed to scoop out the insides of the watermelon. You can save these pieces for making a puree or just eating it as is. Finally add your beverage of choice. You can go as simple as adding a pre made punch from the store, or as exotic as making your own punch recipe or sangria.

Cheers!
