IMG_1037-800Having been on Basin Street myself, I can say that this whiskey Sidecar would fit the bill on a hot summer day in New Orleans.  Whether this drink was created in NOLA, I was unable to find out; but it’s certainly in the style of the great drinks that flow from the bars there.

If you get a chance to visit, make sure you stop in Louis Armstrong Park, which is smack dab in the middle of the Basin Street area.  This is the birthplace of American popular music, and today is a quiet area to rejuvenate after enjoying the craziness of Bourbon Street several blocks away.

Basin Street
2oz bourbon whiskey
0.75oz triple sec
0.75oz lemon juice

Shake well with ice and strain into chilled cocktail glass.

Watch this classic Louis Armstrong video while you’re having the cocktail.
