Five years ago, a handful of dedicated cocktail authorities and historians had a dream. This dream was to find a place to preserve and showcase the distinctly American art of the cocktail. They wanted a place that would educate and advance the evolution of the cocktail community. That dream was made into reality in The Museum of the American Cocktail (MOTAC). Founded in 2008 by the King Cocktail himself Dale DeGroff and a group of passionate cocktailians, MOTAC officially became part of the SoFab Institute, a cultural organization dedicated to all aspects of food and drink.
Luckily for us Angelenos, MOTAC & SoFab have started their educational series “Touring the Cocktail” and this next treat of knowledge will be at Sinatra’s old watering hole, Dominick’s Restaurant in West Hollywood. Hosted by Lesley Jacobs Solmonson of 12 Bottle Bar, MOTAC’s maiden voyage in Los Angeles will be “A History of Gin in Five Cocktails.” Lesley wrote Gin: A Global History, which makes her extraordinarily qualified to take you through the history of genever, and the many faces of gin from Old Tom to London Dry.

Tickets are $45 in advance, and $50 at the door.
