Vikingfjord Vodka Review

One of the latest products to cross our desk is Vikingfjord Vodka. It’s our first hands-on encounter with the Norway-based spirit, which is distilled from potatoes. After distillation, it’s blended with water that comes courtesy of the 5,000 year old Jostedal glacier in Arctic Norway. Glacier water is naturally purified when it passes through mountain rock, so it’s supposed to be cleaner than spring or mineral water. Having never sipped straight from a glacier, we’ll just assume it’s cold and delicious.
On the nose, Vikingfjord Vodka is neutral and mild, so there’s not a lot going on in the aroma department. Drink up to find a medium-bodied mouth feel, and a touch of earthy sweetness. Again, it’s very neutral, as can be expected, though there is a faint and numbing bitterness that hangs on at the end. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as it adds some character to the finish without being overwhelmingly bitter.
Overall, this is an easy-going, mostly-smooth vodka that should work well in simple cocktails. And it’s bottled in a sleek, handsome package that looks to have been cut from a glacier itself. So there’s that.
Vikingfjord is a popular vodka in its native land, though it doesn’t have too much shelf space stateside. Prices vary, but we’ve seen Vikingfjord Vodka for as little as $12, making this a solid value buy.
