West Hollywood: Tapas at Estrella SunsetEdit Post

Zero readers love this post.
I was recently invited to Estrella on the Sunset strip which has changed its menu to be tapas driven. My friend and I each ordered three tapas to share. We agreed we had to get the meat plate which came with a wonderful tomato topped bread. I have had this at other Spanish restaurants and this is one of the better versions I’ve had. Some might think of it as Spanish bruschetta but it’s not as garlic-y.
creamy chicken croquettes
Another dish I feel you must get at Spanish restaurants are croquettes. We tried the creamy chicken croquettes and I really enjoyed them. They were lightly fried and not at all greasy. The filling was also good.
drinks at Estrella
We ordered a couple of drinks to go with our meal. I tasted the Strawberry Siesta which was pretty good I liked that it was refreshing. I ordered the Sunset which was seemed like a take on a Manhattan though shaken (?) and fairly sweet. I waited for the ice to melt a bit before imbibing further. I probably should have known from the description of fig syrup that it might on the sweeter side.
Strawberry Siesta – Batiste rum, muddled strawberry and basil, balsamic vinegar, apple cider vinegar, strawberry syrup
The Sunset – Templeton rye whiskey, apricot, house fig syrup, candied fig
We decided to get shrimp as that’s another Spanish fave of ours. I felt these were more sauce driven than the ones I’ve had before. I would have liked these a little more garlic-y. But that’s a personal preference. My friend who is moving to Spain thought these were great.
octopus and potatoes
We were getting full but I loved the potatoes in the octopus dish. I ate most of the potatoes while my friend had the octopus.
We needed a veggie so we got mushrooms. This is a great portion and more than enough for two.
One of my favorite dishes of the night was the arroz negro. The sauce was so flavorful. I’d get this again and try all the other tapas next time.
