Westward American Single Malt Whiskey is cool for a couple reasons. #1 they distill it all themselves so it’s representing a true house style (ha) and a representation of what they’re able to do. #2 it’s unique.
In House Spirit’s Words: Westward American Single Malt Whiskey
“Westward American Single Malt Whiskey is a grain-to-glass celebration of the American pioneer spirit. Made from scratch from Pacific Northwest two-row barley, fermented with American ale yeast for outstanding flavor, double pot distilled for exceptional character, matured in new American oak barrels, and never chill filtered, Westward brings together the very best of the American whiskey and craft beer traditions.”
Grain-to-glass and made here in the USA through the dedication and talent of some passionate folks. I’m interesting in digging in so let’s jump down to the Westward American Single Malt Whiskey review!

Westward American Single Malt Whiskey Review
Herbal, cinnamon, butterscotch, waxy, char, and young “craft” oak with a bit of earthy meaty funk and lemon curd.
Piney herbal, butterscotch, orchard fruit, orange peel, baking spice, cocoa and a bit of earthiness and young oak.
Long herbal fade accented with bits of orange peel, butterscotch, cocoa and lemon.
BALANCE, BODY & FEEL
Good sense of balance, medium body and a soft feel that fades out dry and chalky.
Westward American Single Malt Whiskey is spicy, herbal and sweet in a way that reminds me a bit of the FEW rye, but not as complex and carrying more of that young “craft” oak flavor and aroma to it. Though, thankfully, here it gets balanced out by a nice array of flavors and aromas and once it gets to the point that note is no longer present this whisky is going to be killer.
This is the first time I’ve had the Westward American Single Malt Whiskey and I have to say… I’m kinda into it. Even more, I’m interested to see how they continue to evolve and grow as brand. I’m adding these guys to my list of “craft distillers to watch” for sure.
