House of Friends

A Margarita riff you won’t soon forget.

House of Friends cocktail

Cocktail consultant Brian Van Flandern created this cocktail in honor of Casamigos creators and friends George Clooney and Rande Gerber. Think of the House of Friends as an herbaceous take on the classic Margarita, one that’s perfectly suited to any occasion or time of day.

The use of Cointreau in place of triple sec generally translates to lending a bit more structure to the overall flavor profile, thanks to its slightly higher proof, and of course there are the delicate orange, floral and vanilla notes for which the liqueur is so well-known. The addition of French liqueur yellow Chartreuse to the recipe adds herbaceous notes and a honeyed complexity.

Despite its name, you can just as easily enjoy this cocktail at home solo as much as you would surrounded by a group of friends. Either way, you’ll want to keep your ingredients and supplies at the ready, because there will inevitably be a second round.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 ounces Casamigos blanco tequila
  • 1/4 ounce yellow Chartreuse
  • 1/4 ounce Cointreau
  • 1 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 ounce agave nectar
  • Garnish: freshly grated nutmeg

Steps

  1. Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.

  2. Strain into a cocktail glass.

  3. Garnish with a dusting of freshly grated nutmeg.
